LEATHER MAID | THE LEATHER SHED BLOG

To this day, every aspect of Jamie Maloney's craft is done by hand.

Known around these parts as the Leather Maid, Jamie first started honing her craft as a youngin in the USA, some 50 years ago. Today she works from her studio in the foothills of Mt Nebo in Samford Valley, Queensland creating one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces for her clients.

Jamie believes in crafting timeless pieces that last a lifetime (and longer!) and gets a kick out of picturing archaeologists hundreds of years from now, unearthing something she has made with her own hands.

It's this dance of past, present and future that translates in her work. She adores celtic motifs and designs; kilt belts and sporrans are particular favourites. From leather bound family tree albums with the family crests carved on the cover, to pouches, sword sheaths and belts and much more. If it can be done with leather, Jamie will do it!

Jamie's work is currently on display at The Slab Hut in the Samford Valley Arts and Crafts Centre, but if you want to see her in action, you'll need to get along to The Abbey Medieval Festival in July!

A mecca for historians, re-enactment groups and other historically inspired peoples, the event itself is the largest Festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. For the first time in festival history, you will be able to place an order for your custom leather belt, and have it made for you (by Jamie) while you watch - how great is that!
